Why Backlinks Aren't Created Equally In The Healthcare Industry

Backlinks for the health industry
As people may know, you need authority to help rank for keywords on search engines, and this only comes through the acquisition of backlinks.

This creates a scenario where link sellers are abundant, and certain packages are sold as being the best, with certain ratings and promises thrown in. As a result,

Links aren’t created equally, and there are multiple factors that dictate the strength and effect of one pointing directly to your domain.

We’ll be discussing how backlinks work and why you should be careful when vetting where they come from and the associated content around the anchor tag used.

Why Da & DR Don't Matter In Ranking.

DA example
Many so-called SEOs will try to sell you what is known as high DA and DR backlinks. DA stands for Domain Authority, and DR stands for Domain Rating. These scores, created by companies such as Moz and Ahrefs, estimate how likely a website is to rank on search engine results pages (SERPs) compared with its competitors.

None of these scores is a direct ranking factor with Google or other search engines, and they are merely vanity metrics used as a benchmark for assessing a website’s performance based on internal characteristics only.
These ratings can easily be manipulated through a multitude of techniques and may appear to help you rank initially, but the gains will likely fall once Google detects a link farm or parasite SEO has been used to artificially inflate rankings. This can ultimately result in losing all of your ranking increases if the algorithm detects that this is happening.

The Issue of Parasite SEO

Parasite SEO Example
Parasite SEO is the practice of placing links to a domain on a website that allows comments or interactions from members of the public. If webmasters haven’t configured websites correctly, then these can be abused in order to pass authority from the backlink, helping to rank the recipient site in the search engine.

The anchor tag, also known as the text of a link pointing to a domain, helps signal to Google what the content is about.

Often, this is continually used as an exact match on parasite domains, which helps rank certain keywords quickly, but is xeroed by Google once they detect that the linking domain (link from their domain to yours) is linking to hundreds, if not thousands, of domains via comments, page links, and other parasitic tactics.

How To find Good Backlinks

Finding good links can sometimes be a challenge if you don’t know what you’re looking for. The best way of finding backlinks that will have an effect is by using Semrush, Ahrefs, and Majestic to see which other domains are pointing to a potential website you would like a link from

These tools are expensive but needed to see how authority is flowing from the other websites and to determine the domain's topical authority.

Topical authority refers to an SEO principle in which a website is acknowledged by search engines as a reliable and thorough resource on a particular topic. All this basically means is finding other domains that are in the same industry as yourself.

By checking which pages have organic traffic on a domain, this determines topical authority, and a link from that domain could help with helping you rank.

Creative Link Building Techniques

A super easy and old school way of finding link-building opportunities is by using a Google search. Using the - inurl:city name + Sponsors. This will bring up any pages with the word sponsors in them and produce a wide range of opportunities where links can be acquired.
By discussing how backlinks work, you can reach out to your extended network and start making relationships through link building. Google allows people to link to one another as long as it is contextual and not abused. It’s natural for related industries to have associations, and collectively could lead to acquisitions via organic traffic from each other’s websites.
